objective:

The Director of Products is a proactive leader who leads the organization in research for new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. This role evaluates the potential and practicality of products in development and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and implement goals. This person is a hands on leader who works with Collection Development, Marketing and the Sales teams to produce products and services that meet current and future needs in the education marketplace. At Booksource, our Product group is a small, highly collaborative team that partners with design and development to define and carry-out the right approach for our digital and non-digital products. Developing long-term strategies for our products, including website monetization, social media, mobile strategies, book collections, and proprietary products that meet market demand.

Duties:

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides leadership to the Marketing team, Collection Development team, Inventory Control team and Digital Product teams throughout the Booksource division.

  • Oversees entire life cycle of new product development from ideation to product launch.

  • Assesses the performance of product launches to ensure they are meeting product objectives and market expectations.

  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project

  • Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment.
  • Collaborates closely with team and provides product leadership to ensure business requirements and product goals are met.
  • Leads product delivery teams and hold them accountable to commitments.
  • Prioritizes the development of features, enhancements, and support fixes with competing interests from product teams, sales, and IT.

  • Aligns overlapping capabilities and business processes to ensure seamless user experience across diverse applications and products.

  • Understands customer needs, the competitive landscape, and new technology developments within the education market.

     

     

Requirements/Qualifications:

 

  • Experience launching new products/brands to market

  • Understanding of costing and pricing models associated with new product launches

  • Experience working with analytics platforms

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated experience communicating broad strategic initiatives to key stakeholders

  • Willingness to simultaneously tackle multiple projects and challenges

  • Passion to rapidly build expertise on new businesses and industry verticals

  • Desire to create sustainable businesses and innovative user experiences for the largest brands on the web

  • Social and mobile expertise a plus

  • MBA preferred, but not required
